The road network maintains a good standard given the conditions, but it is important to remember that gravel road maintenance is weather-dependent. If the road is too dry or wet, potholes and washboards will reappear immediately. It is therefore important that the road is graded when it is sufficiently moist, so that it can “settle” again. During long periods of dry weather or heavy rain, there may be challenges on the roads for this reason. When natural conditions are favorable again, the crew is always ready to start work.

Natural conditions set limitations, but the crew adapts the work in the best possible way.

Did you know that..

The length of the main roads in Pihl corresponds to the distance from Sjusjøen to Oslo Central Station

Over the course of a year, we have 180,000 vehicles visiting the road network

A total of 10,000 road markers are put up and taken down in autumn and spring

Many of today’s main roads follow old summer farm trails used over 200 years ago

Pihl is responsible for the operation and maintenance of a total of 180 km of main roads in the Ringsaker mountains.
