At Pihl, we have 6 water systems that supply water to 120 tap points distributed throughout the cabin areas.
The operation and maintenance of water systems and tap points is extensive, and a great effort is made to maintain a good service in the cabin areas.
This includes:
- Chlorination and other measures to maintain satisfactory water quality.
- Regular water samples are sent to the Norwegian Food Safety Authority for control.
- Thawing of tap points and water pipes during the winter months.
- Inspection and fencing of water intakes
- Improvements to pipes and tap points.

Improvements to water systems
The water systems in Pihl have been in operation for many years, and this entails ongoing maintenance and improvements.
The water system at Elgåsen was officially opened in 1977, and was then the largest of its kind in the country.
Over the past three years, several improvements have been made to the Elgåsen system:
- New tap point and connection chamber in Brinken in 2021
- 2 new tap points in 2023
- 400 meters of new insulated pipe to indoor tap point

Indoor tap point
Several cabin owners have requested more modern and user-friendly solutions for water filling, and we now have two indoor tap points available in the Pihl area: one at Elgåsen and one at Kroksjøen. Here, you can fill water sheltered from the weather, and grazing animals are kept away from the tap point itself.
The indoor tap points have proven to be very reliable and popular among users. We receive positive feedback from cabin owners and visitors who appreciate a modern and easily accessible service.
