All forest in cottage areas is considered protected forest under the Forestry Act, and tree felling must therefore be approved by Pihl in advance. For Sjusjøen, specific rules for tree felling have been established in collaboration with Sjusjøen Vel.
To fell trees on a cottage plot located in areas other than Sjusjøen, you need permission from Pihl. This applies to both leasehold plots and freehold plots. The application form can be found at the bottom of the page.
Guidelines for tree removal at Sjusjøen
Cottage owners at Sjusjøen may remove spruce saplings/trees lower than 3 meters (“smaller trees”) on their own plot and on their own initiative. Remember that trees should be cut as close to the ground as practically possible.
Smaller trees – lower than 3 meters – may also be removed along the access road to the individual cottage, up to 3 meters from the roadside. Trees standing closer than 30 meters to another cottage cannot be removed without express approval from the affected cottage owner.
When trees are removed, each cottage plot of 1 dekar (1,000 square meters) should at all times have at least the following remaining:
- 5 spruce saplings with a height less than 0.5 meters,
- 3 spruce saplings/trees with a height of 0.5–1.5 meters,
- 2 trees with a height of 1.5–2.5 meters.
For smaller plots, these numbers are applied proportionally.
Removal of trees higher than 3 meters (“larger trees”) may only take place after agreement with Pihl.
The landowner may require coverage of costs if they are to remove larger trees at the request of the cottage owner. The cottage owner may freely use felled trees for firewood. Any assistance with removal of felled trees must be arranged and paid for separately.

Approval for tree felling
Approval for tree felling must be applied for using the form.
Incomplete applications will not be processed, for example in cases of missing approval from a neighbor.

A processing time of several weeks should be expected. Applications submitted after September 1 will be processed the following year.
